3d Modelling

Computer Software as a Design Aid

We believe that because buildings are created in 3 dimensions, they should be designed in 3 dimensions. We utilise 3D modeling programmes to allow us to fully understand the volumes and relationships we are creating when we design.

Our favourite software at present is Sketch-Up, which we use from initial concept design stage right up to submission for Planning Consent.

We find Sketch-Up to be ideal for our uses as many of the unique features of existing, historic buildings can be modeled easily and effectively. We also love to be able to show our clients 3D images and walk-thrus of their proposals - it really brings it to life and helps with discussions.

Below are a selection of images taken from models we have created.

Extension to church

Using Sketch-Up we can quickly create a block model of existing buildings for use in both design and presentation of ideas. In this case we are able to see what sort of impact a new extension would have on the existing Church.

Roof bracing

When working with existing buildings there are often historical features that we must work around. In this example we were able to accurately model the existing roof structure and then design additional strengthening which works with the beauty of the existing structure.

Church options

Sketch-Up allows us to demonstrate different option to Clients very clearly. This allows much better communication and means that we provide the best service possible.

Entrance photo model

We are able to combine photographs and 3d modeling to give an accurate impression of proposals. Because we design in 3D, using Sketch-Up, it is really simple to choose views from the model to use as presentation images and does not require a great deal of additional input.
